BOTKINS — The driver of a sedan that went off Wenger Road and ended up in a cornfield Monday night died and a medical issue is suspected as the cause, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.

The driver, identified only as a female, was headed south in the 17,000 block of Wenger when she drove off the east side of the road, Sgt. Joel Howell said.

Witnesses pulled her out of the Bonneville sedan and one of them started CPR, but the Shelby County coroner pronounced the driver dead at the scene, Howell said.

Deputies, a medic from Anna and a Botkins fire crew were dispatched just after 8 p.m. CareFlight was called as well, but was canceled.

There were no other vehicles involved and no one else in the vehicle, Howell said.

Her name, age and hometown likely will be released Tuesday, Howell said.
