MIAMI VALLEY — Winter is fast approaching and our Storm Center 7 team has a first look at what it could mean for the Miami Valley.
Global weather patterns are hinting La Nina may develop before winter begins. This would be the biggest driver on how the next few months will pan out.
There's about a 55 to 65 percent chance La Nina will form, according to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center. If it does, the Miami Valley would experience a more active winter compared to years past.

That doesn't necessarily mean a snowy winter, but more opportunities to bring rain, snow, sleet or freezing rain to the region.
Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell and his team also agree that although there could be big swings from warm to cold, the overall winter will finish near normal for temperatures.
The winter may finish with big storms. Again, not necessarily snow, but very impactful.
