Woman sentenced in corpse dissection case

A Tulsa, Okla. woman charged with mutilating a corpse at a funeral home was convicted and sentenced on a number of related charges on Thursday including burglary, disturbing a funeral and unlawful removal of a body part from the deceased, according to Cox sister station Fox 23 News.

Shaynna Sims, who is also known by the last name Smith, was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The Oklahoma television station reports Sims was accused of illegally dissecting a human body. Authorities reported Sims cut the body and hair of a deceased woman, and removed a toe and breasts from the body.

According to police, Sims and the deceased woman were ‘frenemies’ and Smith’s boyfriend used to date the woman.

Fox 23 reports Sims went to the Moore Funeral Home Eastlawn location and found the woman’s body. Sims cut the hair, smudged the makeup and cut the woman’s face.

The deceased woman’s mother saw Sims with her hands in the casket, but she took them out and left after the mother walked up to her, according to a Fox 23 report.

Our sister station reports the deceased woman’s family called police who found Smith inside the woman’s apartment.

Police reported they found a knife with hair on it, a box cutter and makeup on Smith when they arrested her.
