1-year-old fatally stabbed; teen mom charged with murder

A Columbus mother has been charged with murder after police say she stabbed her 1-year-old daughter Sunday morning.

Lachelle Anderson, 17, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, our media partner and CBS affiliate WBNS 10TV.com in Columbus reported.

The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of 22nd Street.

Police identified the victim as Lalanna Sharpe. The infant suffered stab wounds and was pronounced dead at Nationwide Children’s Hospital this morning, 10TV reported.

Denise Alex-Bouzounis with the Columbus Division of Police emailed a statement to 10TV regarding the child's death: "Any homicide is a tragedy but for a baby to have her life brutally taken is devastating for her family, the community and our officers on the scene and investigating this case."

A neighbor was in tears when she described how the slain 1-year-old girl was always smiling and would say “hi,” from her grandmother’s porch.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Cherise Reid said. “How could a mom do that with her own kid?”

She only saw the baby interact with the grandmother and her uncle, and only saw the child’s mother twice.
