Extended Ohio order could prevent football, other fall contact sports

OHIO — An order set to expire July 31 has been extended. For Friday night football to resume this fall, the order will have to change.

The extended order allows practice for contact sports, however only intra-club and team scrimmages are permitted.

Contact sports, in the order extension, are defined as football, basketball, rugby, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, hockey, boxing, futsal and martial arts with opponents.

Practice and open gyms with another team, club or inter-club play are not permitted.

“As a freshman I made varsity and I was really excited to cheer under the lights,” Maddie Clouse, freshman and cheerleader said.

Some are disappointed with the measures local schools are taking.

“We’ve been in the weight room all summer putting in work and to just have it pulled away from me like that…I’m not going to lie I cried a little bit,” said Colton Blosser, a football player and junior at Dixie High School.

A rally has been planned August 3 at Dixie High School. Parents and students in attendance aim to promote their message that students should be in the classroom and on the field.
