MIAMISBURG — The deaths of two Canada geese that a witness told police were intentionally run down in the Home Depot lot are under investigation.
The incident was reported around 4:20 p.m. in the store parking lot, 345 N. Springboro Pike. Miamisburg police and an Ohio Department of Natural Resources wildlife officer responded.

Trent Weaver of the ODNR’s Division of Wildlife said this time of year the geese will be pairing up and looking for nesting locations, often in and around large parking lots.
He said they won’t necessarily move out of the way for vehicles on roadways or lots, but he said motorists are to slow down and give them a bit of room.
“There’s no reason to be running them over,” he said.
The Canada goose is protected both under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Ohio state law. This protection extends to the geese, goslings, nests and eggs, according to the ODNR website.
No suspect information was released.
