A house fire on Shawnee Trail a week ago was started by discarded smoking material, according to firefighters.
UPDATE @ 7:06 p.m. (Feb. 12): Crews battled flames at a house on Shawnee Trail on Friday.

According to Washington Twp. Fire Chief William Gaul, damage to the house and belongings was estimated at approximately $250,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Gaul said.
UPDATE @ 12:30 p.m.:
A homeowner called 911 after his Shawnee Trail house caught fire Friday morning, destroying the building.
Firefighters said the homeowner was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, but he’s expected to be OK.
According to firefighters, they were able to contain the fire, but did spray water on neighboring homes to make sure flames didn’t spread.
Ron Kuhn lives in the neighborhood and looked outside and within minutes smoke filled the area and suddenly fire started pouring out of the house.
The majority of damage to the house was on the right portion, which is where the chimney was located, however firefighters have not said what caused the fire.
It’s not known if the house had working smoke detectors, firefighters said.

A home on Shawnee Trail was severely damaged after a fire broke out Friday morning.
One person has been transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation and burns, according to initial reports.

FIRST REPORT
Heavy smoke and flames have been reported from a house fire on Shawnee Trail in Centerville Friday morning.
Crews responded to the home in the 300 block of Shawnee Trail around 10:40 a.m.
Initial reports indicate all occupants were able to evacuate before fire crews arrived on scene.
