FAIRBORN — Fairborn fire crews responded to an apartment unit that was in flames on the 300 block of W. Garland Ave. Sunday morning.
The City of Fairborn Fire Chief David Reichert says fire crews worked quickly to ensure the fire was isolated and did not spread to any of the other apartment units.
According to the owner of the apartment, Sean Maynard, he woke up around 9:30 a.m. to get a drink and saw his couch engulfed in flames.
He had just enough time to safely get himself and his pregnant wife out of the apartment.
Maynard stated that there were no working fire detectors or an available fire extinguisher in his apartment.
The apartment is determined to be a total loss.
Reichert says the cause of the fire is still currently under investigation.
