Dayton City Commissioner Jeff Mims announces run for mayor

DAYTON — Dayton City Commissioner Jeff Mims announced he will run for Mayor in the city of Dayton this fall.

Mims’ is announcing his candidacy just days after current Mayor Nan Whaley said she would not be seeking re-election. Whaley was in attendance at Mims’ announcement this morning.

“I seem to have been blessed with skills of trying to unify people,” Mims said. “We’re more alike than we are unlike.”

Mims first jouned the city commission in January 2014. He also was a representative on the Ohio School Board and is past President of the Dayton Board of Education. He also served as the President of the Dayton Education Association for six terms from 1983-1988.

Mims graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Central State in 1973 and earned a Master’s degree from Wright State in 1975.

Mims is a Vietnam War veteran.
