Woman in I-75 OVI crash in Miami County nearly twice legal driving limit

A Dayton woman in an OVI crash that closed Interstate 75 in Miami County had a blood-alcohol level nearly double the legal driving limit, according to a crash report.

Megan R. Redmond, 37, was arraigned Tuesday in Miami County Municipal Court on charges from the June 3 crash that sent her by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with critical injuries. She earlier pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges filed July 24 of operating a motor vehicle under the influence and operation without being in reasonable control of a vehicle.

Redmond’s speed was estimated at 90 mph when she crashed and flipped her 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe in the single-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-75 just south of the U.S. 36 exit in Piqua, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report. The patrol’s report also stated Redmond’s blood-alcohol level tested at .154, in excess of Ohio’s .08 legal driving limit.

Several hours later, a second crash happened on I-75 when a 19-year-old from Darke County crashed into the back of a semi. The semi was stopped in traffic due to Redmond's crash, according to a June 3 highway patrol media release.

Macie Preston, of Butler Twp. near Arcanum, was pronounced dead at the scene. Redmond is not charged in connection to the second crash, which troopers said was caused by driver inattention.

Redmond has a pretrial conference set for Sept. 14 in her OVI case in Miami County Municipal Court.
