Pickup truck driver injured in rear-end crash with Springfield school bus

The driver of a pickup truck has been taken to a hospital after a rear-end collision involving a Springfield City Schools bus with at least six children aboard.

None of the children, believed to be of elementary school age, was injured, according to Springfield police.

The driver, a male, has been taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

According to witnesses, the school bus driver was dropping off two children at Ohio Avenue and East John Street just after 3:30 p.m. when the truck rear-ended the bus.

According to those same witnesses, the flashing lights on the bus were in activation at the time of the collision.

The children were transferred to another bus and removed from the scene.

The eastbound lanes of East John and all of Ohio Avenue are shut down until further notice.
