A Dayton Walgreens employee called a robber’s bluff who threatened him with a knife and a fake gun, forcing the robber to leave empty-handed.

The incident was reported around 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Walgreens location at 2710 Salem Avenue, after the employee called police to report a man attempted to rob the business.

A customer alerted the employee after they saw a man wearing all black and a hood covering his face had entered the store, according to a Dayton police incident report. The employee told investigators he believed the man was likely to steal something and observed him from behind the front counter.
The man later approached the counter and placed a small box of candy on the counter, placed his hand in his pocket, and ordered the employee to open up the register and give him cash.
The employee refused to open the drawer, telling the suspect he knew he didn’t have a gun and it was only his finger in his coat.
The suspect persisted another time before pulling out a large cutting knife, but the employee again refused to comply with his demands.
The suspect waited for about a minute before uttering ‘ok’ and walked out with nothing.
Police did not indicate if they have a suspect and no arrests have been made.
