Jeremy Watson, 38, of Dayton, is charged in the Monday armed robbery of Dollar General, 24280 State Line Road in the Bright area of Dearborn County, Indiana, Prosecutor Lynn Deddens of Dearborn and Ohio counties announced today in a post on social media.

Watson is accused of approaching the counter at Dollar General with candy and a Gatorade, then telling the clerk: “This is a robbery; give me the money in the money drawer,” Deddens posted on her Facebook page.

Watson then showed the clerk a black handgun tucked in his waistband and later also pointed it at two employees before he fled with cash in a dark-colored Ford Ranger pickup truck, the prosecutor said.

The next day, on Tuesday, a concerned citizen identified the suspect and provided his phone number. The citizen also told Dearborn County Sheriff’s detectives that Watson had recently stolen a black handgun from a family member and drove a black Ford Ranger.

Detectives received a search warrant for Watson’s cellular records, and were able to use GPS to track him 56 miles away to the Red Roof Inn at 222 Byers Road in Miamisburg.

Detectives from the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department and Miamisburg Police Department responded to the motel, where they spotted Watson exit a room and walk toward a black Ford Ranger in the parking lot.

“As officers approached Watson, he turned toward the officers, brandished a black, semi-automatic gun. Miamisburg police officers opened fire on Watson, striking him in the leg,” according to the post from Deddens.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation obtained a search warrant for Watson’s motel room. Inside, they found a black Carhartt-style coat and white T-shirt on the floor, which Deddens said were believed to have been worn by Waton during the Dearborn County armed robbery.

“At this time, Watson has been charged and will await extradition to Indiana upon his release from the hospital,” Deddens posted.
