UPDATE @ 1:18 p.m. (Oct. 27):

Police are searching for the driver they said fled from a crash that ended a pursuit in Butler Twp. Wednesday.

Jonathan Hoffman, 32, of Franklin, is wanted for vehicular assault, reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to comply, failure to stop after an accident.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP.

INITIAL REPORT:

Two people have been taken to a hospital from a vehicle accident in Butler Twp. that involved a police pursuit. Police are still looking for a third person in that vehicle who took off running into a wooded area.

The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, Vandalia police Sgt. Todd Flynn said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle sped off when a Butler Twp. police officer, noticing heavy rear-end damage on that vehicle, attempted to have the vehicle stop, Flynn said.

The pursuit was canceled before the accident occurred along North Dixie Drive at Stop 8 Road, Flynn said.

Two males and a female were in the vehicle, whose driver apparently lost control. The vehicle flipped several times, ejecting one of them, and went airborne before landing in a field and ending up on its top, the sergeant said.

The crash occurred sometime between 11 and 11:30 p.m.

Police were still searching a wooded area for that third person at midnight. All three are said to be in their 20s, Flynn said.

He said the Ohio Highway Patrol will take over the investigation because the incident involved a pursuit. We will update this developing report as information becomes available.
