Miami Co. opens long-term COVID-19 vaccination site

Miami County is ready to open its long-term vaccination site in Troy and there will be staff available to help you every step of the way.

Dennis Propes, Miami County Health Commissioner, gave News Center 7 a tour of the facility to show what people can expect.

The step in clinic is similar to other clinics they have done across the county, but they are improving on each step of the process. If you have an appointment, it should only take about 20 minutes to get the vaccine.

Propes said, “Couple minutes to verify who you are, couple minute to get your shot. 15 minutes of that is going to be sitting here making sure there’s not adverse reactions.”

If you have an appointment, it will likely take 25 to 30 minutes. Health officials said about 38 percent of Ohio’s population has been vaccinated. Miami County hopes that having one site with a range of hours helps them reach more people that they couldn’t before.

“We’re running a little less than that. We’re about 32 percent, about 34,000 people in the country have been vaccinated. 65 and over we’re seeing a good percentage of those about 70 percent, under that it drops off in each age group,” Propes said,

The county and state saw a rise in cases and a smaller peak at the end of March, but the numbers continue to go down here.

According to Propes, “Right now, we’re seeing around 10 to 15 a day. From where we were at our peak, where we were over 100 a day, it’s a lot less but it’s not were we can be if we get more people vaccinated.”

The clinic opens Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then, they will have hours every Tuesday and Thursday, and, also every other Saturday. The clinic is located at 880 Arthur Drive in Troy.
