Fire forces evacuation of Dayton apartment building

Firefighters helped evacuate multiple residents of an apartment building after a fire was discovered on the second floor.

Crews were dispatched to the 800 block of Wilmington Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday when a fire broke out from an apartment on the building’s second floor.

Firefighters evacuated residents, even breaking down some doors on the second and third floors when they arrived on scene, according to Dayton Fire District Chief Scott Rowlett.

Some occupants required treatment for smoke inhalation, but all were treated on the scene.

The fire was contained to one apartment without spreading to other units, and the cause remains under investigation.

Rowlett says five to six people will be displaced because of the blaze and will receive assistance from the Red Cross.
