1 in custody after single-car crash in Dayton

UPDATE @ 9:20 p.m.: Police aren't sure the person taken into custody from the single-vehicle accident on Cumberland Avenue was one of the people a witness said scrambled from the wreckage before officers and a fire/rescue unit arrived.

Dayton Sgt. Justin Poe said the preliminary investigation shows that a BMW sedan was being driven at high speed east on Cumberland when the driver lost control, hit a curb and flipped the vehicle. It came to rest on its top, partially on the sidewalk.

A neighborhood resident told police at least three people got out of the wreckage and ran, the sergeant said.

Cumberland Avenue, from Harvard Boulevard to Salem Avenue, was closed for a time because of the accident.
