1 in custody in Jefferson Twp. SWAT call

UPDATE @ 11:02 p.m.: A 40-year-old man doused himself and his house in gasoline, then threatened to hurt himself and others.

SWAT responded at 7:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Lawncrest Avenue in Drexel.

“Deputies originally responded here on a call of a subject inside this location who had doused the house with gasoline, was making threats to harm himself and shoot at police officers,” said Maj. Daryl Wilson of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect broke out all the windows in the house and was yelling out the window and seemed distraught, Wilson said.

“Eventually, he did come outside through the front door. At that time, several SWAT deputies took him into custody without incident,” Wilson said.

The suspect, Don Banks, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of inducing panic. However, deputies said they’d rather see Banks get psychological help rather than jailtime.

“We’re not sure what’s going on, we’re just happy that it ended without anybody getting hurt,” Wilson said.

The Jefferson Twp. Fire Department also responded to the house because the gasoline posed a safety hazard.

Dayton Power & Light Co. cut power to the home to prevent any further issues tonight.

@ 8:55 p.m.: A man has been arrested, but Lawncrest Avenue remains blocked.

The man surrenderd shortly after SWAT arrived. He came out the front door to the house in the 100 block of Lawncrest Avenue and was placed in custody.

The house is not safe after the suspect — who allegedly doused himself with gasoline — also poured gas inside the home, where firefighters also found electric wires pulled out of the walls.
