Alleged shoplifter in jail for $4.49 sandwich

Police say Juan Bell stole a $4.49 sandwich from Walgreens, 2710 Salem Ave.

According to his arrest report, Bell told police he was tired after a several-day crack binge, and was limping because he’d “been walking for a very long time.”

Bell, 39, is in Montgomery County Jail, facing assault and theft charges after the Walgreens security guard tried to stop the man and he allegedly fought back then ran about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police caught up with him nearby.
