22-year-old Indiana man killed in head-on crash

A 22-year-old New Castle, Indiana, man is dead after a head-on collision this morning in Randolph County.

Levi D. Rose was driving a 2009 Honda Civic north around 11:15 a.m. on State Road 1 when he went around a construction sign and into the southbound lane in the path of a 2008 Buick Enclave driven by 65-year-old Kenneth G. Shockley of Winchester, Indiana, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Rose was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shockley was not injured, but his wife, Mary J. Shockley, was treated and released for minor injuries at Ball Memorial Hospital, the sheriff’s office reported.

Just before the crash, Shockley was traveling south on State Road 1 and had driven around a construction sign at the intersection of County Road 700, and back into the southbound lane when Rose collided with his vehicle, deputies said.

The black box of both vehicles was removed for further analysis by the sheriff’s office and Indiana State Police crash scene investigators, deputies said.
