Lightning strikes Sugarcreek Twp. house 2nd time

UPDATE @ 11:38 p.m.

A lightning bolt put a large hole in the side of a house tonight while a family of four was inside.

The hole — about 4 feet wide and 3 feet tall — cut through the upper story’s vinyl siding, insulation and drywall.

It was the second time the house had been hit by lightning, neighbors say.

Sugarcreek Twp. firefighters were called at 10:05 p.m. to the house in the 4000 block of Seema Drive. There were no injuries, but the family is temporarily displaced, fire officials said.

Crews shut off electricity and were checking for burns throughout the home. Smoke filled the home following the lightning strike, but it’s not clear where the house sustained smoke damage.

Repairs could reach $10,000, crews said.
