Moraine council approves Fuyao tax deal

The tax abatement deal approved Thursday evening between Fuyao Glass America Inc. and Moraine to bring more than 1,500 full-time jobs to the city may start in July.

Moraine officials said they will talk with the Chinese auto glass maker to schedule the start of the company’s 12-year, 100 percent tax abatement that will bring an estimated $62 million payroll to the former General Motors plant at 2801 W. Stroop Road, Moraine City Manager David Hicks said.

Moraine City Council on Thursday evening approved the deal that will result in Fuyao investing an estimated $360 million in the 1.4 million square foot plant and bringing in 1,550 jobs within three years.

The abatement also impacts Kettering City Schools, which approved a deal with Fuyao earlier this spring.

The company will invest $38.3 million into construction — $3.3 million of it new — at the plant where it will produce glass products for autos, the agreement indicates. Hicks said it is the $38.3 million that is subject to abatement.

The agreement calls for 650 jobs to be created in the first year, and 850 to 900 more by the end of year three. Fuyao, which expects to have more than 250 workers hired by the end of June, should meet the agreement’s first year employment baseline by the end of 2015, a company official said this week.
