Retired officer dies after funeral procession crash

A retired police lieutenant in Cincinnati has died after being struck on his motorcycle while leading a funeral procession.

Our news partners at WCPO in Cincinnati say George Brooks, 63, was leading a funeral procession Saturday afternoon on his police motorcycle when he was hit by a car on a side street in the city’s West End.

Brooks, a 25-year veteran with the Forest Park Police Department, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he would die from his injuries around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses have told police Brooks had his lights and siren active at the time of the crash.

The driver involved in the crash has been identified as 30-year-old Anton Palmer. Police say Palmer is cooperating with police, but charges have not yet been filed against him.

Officials say the crash is still under investigation, but do not believe that excessive speed or impairment from drugs or alcohol were factors.
