Suspected overdose takes 38-year-old man’s life

Marcia Bailey, 61, hadn’t heard from her son, since he’d spent the night at her house a couple of days before.

Tuesday morning, she arrived at his residence, to find Dayton Police. One officer broke the news to her. He was dead. The police report says simply, “she took the news hard.”

The 38-year-old man was found dead on his bed in the 100 block of Torrence St. by his roommate. According to the police report, he had “bubbly clear foam/liquid” coming from his mouth. Wearing basketball shorts, a white t-shirt and socks, he died holding his cell phone in his left hand. The officer says his room was “orderly” and she didn’t observe any signs of drug use in the apartment. She wrote there was no obvious signs of trauma or foul play.

Bailey reported to police her son used to do cocaine, but she didn’t know if he still did drugs, because “he kept those things hidden” from her. She said on their last night together, Sunday, he was sick with flu-like symptoms and a fever. He went back to his apartment Monday, and she didn’t talk to him all day.

The body was removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s office, where an autopsy was scheduled. Results of the toxicology reports will take 6 to 8 weeks.
