WASHINGTON TWP. — A 24-year-old man who sold his car through a Craigslist ad was robbed this week of his money and car.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the armed robbery that happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday outside the victim’s home in the 400 block of Windsor Park Drive in Washington Twp.
The victim said he placed an ad through the free internet classified website and had been communicating with a man who said he was from Columbus. They agreed to a $6,100 sale price and to meet at 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp.
The buyer arrived with another man in a cream colored Chrysler 300, and from there, they went to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, 104 W. Spring Valley Pike in Centerville. The car was titled to one of the men, who also received temporary Ohio license tags. The men each drove a Chrysler 300, and one gave the victim a ride to his home, according to the sheriff’s office report.
When the victim was out of the car and in his driveway, he said a man got out of a maroon Jeep Liberty parked east of his house, showed a firearm and said, “give me your money.” The victim said he handed over the $6,100 from the car sale. The gunman then got back into the Jeep. Both Chrysler 300s and the Jeep then sped away from Windsor Park Drive, the report stated.
The victim then got into his car and called 911 as he followed them west on Ohio 725. The cream colored car continued on Ohio 725 while the Jeep and green car headed north on Interstate 675. The victim pulled over at the request of emergency dispatchers.
The incident remains under investigation.
