Dayton business hit by tornado now victim of theft

DAYTON — A Dayton business that has sustained millions of dollars in damage and lost productivity after it was hit by a tornado was dealt another blow.

Someone broke in and stole a generator sometime overnight Monday from Miami Valley Packaging Solutions Inc., 150 Janney Ave. in Dayton.

News Center 7’s Molly Koweek spoke to company leaders and workers. Even though the company is only operating at 8 percent production following the Memorial Day tornado, its workers are still getting paid.

“The fact that someone would take advantage of that kindness, it actually infuriates me,” Jeremy Withrow, machine operator said.

Withrow has only been with Miami Valley Packaging Solutions for a little over a year. His tenure pales in comparison to some of his co-workers.  “Some of them, the guys they’ve been here for 30-plus years,” he said.

Withrow said he appreciates his company and is grateful for what they’ve done.

While this sentiment stands in stark contrast to how he feels about the generator theft, the company’s president, who called the theft “disheartening,” said he is staying positive despite this additional $4,500 setback.

“We’re going to come out of this stronger than we went in,” said James Williams.

He previously said he hoped to be back under their old roof and at normal capacity within six months.

“Our insurance adjuster expects it to be a $4- to $5 million claim at the end of the day,” Williams said.
