Hiring sessions Tuesday in Trotwood for U.S. Census

TROTWOOD — The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for workers to help interview people for this year’s census count.

To help fill these temporary jobs, the bureau will be in Trotwood on Tuesday for two hiring sessions between 9 a.m. and noon or from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Trotwood Community & Cultural Arts Center, 4000 Lake Center Drive.

News Center 7’s Ronnell Hunt said people he spoke to welcome the opportunities.

“The more job development, the more the community will be able to bring other opportunities to people,” Mike Moorman of Trotwood said.

Josh Hughbanks, a contractor from Cincinnati, said his team has been here helping to rebuild houses damaged by the Memorial Day tornado outbreak. He said Trotwood is a good place to hold the hiring event.

“You can look on the streets now, there’s nobody. It’s like a ghost town. If they do that it’ll probably help this city,” he said of hiring local workers.

Those who are hired as a census worker will receive paid training, flexible hours, weekly paychecks and earn between $18.50 and $20.25 per hour.

Workers must be at least 18, have a valid Social Security number and pass a Census Bureau-performed background check and a case-by-case review of criminal records, including fingerprinting.

“Don’t prejudge your eligibility for 2020 Census jobs,” said Rose Simmons, an Ohio Partnership Coordinator. “Just apply and let us take it from there.”
