Baby inside stolen car reportedly OK after thief leaves child, in car seat, in the street

HARRISON TWP. — Police are searching for a stolen car that had an 18-month-old child in the backseat when it was taken.

The child, strapped in a car seat, was recovered in the middle of the 3800 block of Adair Avenue in Harrison Twp., about 4:54 p.m. Thursday, according to police and fire radio dispatches.

The child is OK, according to police.

The car is believed to be a 2012 purple Kia Optima that initially was believed to have been headed south on I-75 near Stanley Avenue in Dayton about 4:27 p.m.

Minutes later, police received information from callers to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch that the car was last seen headed north on I-75, and may have left the interstate before Needmore Road.

Police and deputies were sent to Adair Avenue, where they found the baby.

As of Thursday night, the vehicle had not been located, according to police.
