Mower may have set off fire that destroys home in Shelby County village

ANNA — UPDATE @ 8:27 p.m.: The home in the 100 block of East Walnut Street, in the Shelby County village of Anna, has been destroyed by the fire.

Neighbors are telling us a lawn mower in the attached garage is believed to have exploded and set off the fire.

The Anna fire chief said the mower is a possible cause of the fire, which has displaced two residents. There were no injuries.

The chief estimates damage to the structure and contents at $225,000.

Anna firefighters were helped by crews from Botkins, Jackson Center and Van Buren.

UPDATE @ 5:08 p.m.:

The house fire is in the 100 block of East Walnut Street, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s dispatch, and there are a large number of crews on scene.

INITIAL REPORT

Crews have been dispatched to a house fire with at least one reported explosion in the area of North Pike and East Walnut streets in the village of Anna, in Shelby County.

The fire was reported just after 4:30 p.m. and we're hearing the occupants were able to get out of the structure.

There are no reports of injuries.
