Detectives have identified the people who were in the truck and they are being interviewed, according to the police department.
The statement from the police department is as follows:
"After extensive investigation, collection of evidence, and interviews by Dayton Police detectives it’s been established that Mr. Currin left the University of Dayton campus on foot to pick up a carryout pizza order at an establishment on Wayne Avenue.
"At some point on his way to that establishment, Mr. Currin accepted a ride from the driver of a pickup truck and was seated in the bed of the truck. Approximately a mile into that ride, Mr. Currin made impact with the roadway after separating from the bed of the moving truck, causing his fatal injuries.
"The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office determined Mr. Currin’s head injury was consistent with falling from a moving vehicle.

"The investigation revealed the driver of the truck did not stop to report the incident or render aid. A female driver pulled up moments later, stopped to help Mr. Currin and call 9-1-1.
"Dayton Police detectives identified the occupants of the pickup truck and interviews are ongoing. Detectives also obtained a search warrant for the vehicle.
"Dayton Police and UD Public Safety personnel met with Mr. Currin’s family today [Wednesday] to share the update of the investigation into his tragic death.
“Our investigation remains open and upon completion, detectives will meet with prosecutors for potential charges.”
