DAYTON — Taylor Wesley Walter, already the primary suspect in the killing of his mother, now is charged with burglarizing a residence in Perry Twp., the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said late Friday afternoon.
Walter, 27, of Brookville, was found by police on Thursday morning in a home in the 3000 block of Johnsville Brookville Road that had been broken into, Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.'s office said.
Further investigation by Perry Twp. police determined that Walter had located in that residence a 9 mm handgun that belonged to the homeowner.
Friday, the prosecutor’s office approved charges of burglary and weapons possession as a felon to send this case to a grand jury for indictment. Walter remains in the county jail on $100,000 bail for the two felony charges.
He is the primary suspect in the death of his mother, Donna Walter, whose body was discovered Feb. 12, in the Perry Twp. home she and Walter shared. She had been stabbed to death. Police arrested Walter in the homicide approximately two hours after the incident. He was released pending further investigation.
At the time of the homicide, Walter was under indictment for aggravated drug possession from a Sept. 3, 2019, incident on Upper Lewisburg Road. Additionally, Clark County authorities wanted Walter on an OVI charge.
Despite the criminal history, Heck’s office said, Walter was released on a conditional own recognizance bond over the objections of the prosecutor’s office.
