DAYTON — Officials and students at the University of Dayton and Miami University are working hard to stop the spread of the coronavirus, where the rising numbers of cases have put Montgomery and Butler counties on the state’s top-10 list of new cases.

“If you compare it to nursing homes, that’s another area where people are living together in a small space,” Dan Suffoletto, spokesman for Public Health Dayton & Montgomery County, told News Center 7′s Ronnell Hunt on Tuesday night.
Even with restrictions in place and signage everywhere reminding students, faculty and staff about the things they have to do to cut the spread, the spread seems to continue.
UD reported 55 new cases Monday to bring the total active case count to 771.
MU reported 249 new cases Monday.
Wright State University officials reported Tuesday that four students and one employee tested positive on the Fairborn campus.
Numbers are rising off campus as well, according to state data.
Butler County reported 173 cases per 100,000 residents over the last 13 days, while Montgomery County recorded 171 during the same span.
It’s frustrating and difficult to deal with, UD sophomore Nadi Argiro said, knowing that UD contributed to the increased numbers.
“We’re all going through it,” Argiro said, “but it’s only going to get better if we take the right actions. No one wants to have to wear a mask all the time, but you honestly just have to do it because it’s just the right thing to do.”
