Coroner identifies swimmer recovered at Buck Creek State Park

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE 5/27/20 @ 3:05 p.m.

The Clark County Coroner has identified the missing swimmer at Buck Creek State Park as 18-year-old Nathaniel Cain.

The death of Cain is currently a suspected drowning.

We will update the story with any new details we receive.

FIRST REPORT 5/26/20:

A man’s body was recovered at Buck Creek State Park following a search that began when a swimmer was reported missing at the beach nearly 4 hours earlier, an official with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said.

The recovery was made at approximately 8:20 p.m.

The victim’s name has not been released. The ODNR official, Stephanie O’Grady, said the Clark County Coroner’s Office would confirm the victim’s name.

ODNR, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Mad River Fire Department, Moorfield Twp. Fire Department, and Wright-Patterson AFB Dive Team assisted in the recovery.

The incident remains under investigation.

The individual was last seen swimming at the beach about 4:30 p.m., according to ODNR.
