Preble County man killed in crash involving motorcycle, deer, and pickup truck Sunday night

GRATIS TWP., Preble County — UPDATE @ 9 a.m. (Nov. 2):

A Gratis man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle, deer, and pickup truck on state Route 122 in Preble County Sunday night, Sheriff Mike Simpson said in a media release Monday morning.

David W. Gray Jr., 49, was the operator of a motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.

The crash was reported around 6:20 p.m. on state Route 122 south of Somers Gratis Road.

A preliminary investigation found Gray was traveling south on state Route 122 when he hit a deer, sending the motorcycle into the northbound lanes, Simpson said. The crash with the deer ejected Gray from his motorcycle, and he was hit by a pickup truck traveling north.

The occupants inside the pickup truck were not injured in the crash.

Additional details were not released and the crash remains under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.


FIRST REPORT (Nov. 1):

The Preble County Coroner’s Office was requested after a crash involving two vehicles on state Route 122 just south of Somers Gratis Road Sunday night.

The crash was reported just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to initial reports.

The number of victims involved and fatalities was not released.
