MONTGOMERY COUNTY — One person who became dislodged from his kayak Friday evening while on the Stillwater River was rescued by firefighters, while two others who also found themselves separated from their kayaks were able to swim to safety, Butler Twp. Fire Capt. Tyler Mangas said.
Mangas said rescuers found the man, who was wearing a life jacket, clinging to a tree branch. Rescuers put two boats in the water to get him in an operation that took about 45 minutes, the captain said. Fire/rescue crews from Clayton and Huber Heights assisted.
Residents who live along the river at Westfall Drive said water depth normally is 2 to 3 feet, but now is about 10 feet deep after all the recent rain, Mangas said.
The three kayakers are all OK.
“No injuries whatsoever; just a little pride hurt,” Mangas said.
