KETTERING — Several families have been displaced by a fire Thursday afternoon in a first-floor apartment on Rue Royal, Kettering Fire Battalion Chief Doug Panstingel said.

Crews were dispatched just after 3:30 p.m. on a report of a structure fire, Panstingel said.
The fire spread to an upstairs unit, where there was minor damage, he said. There was smoke damage throughout.
One pet crews found was alive, he said.
No injuries were reported.
An investigator has been called to the scene to pin down the cause of the fire.
