Medical event believed to have led to deadly crash in Darke County, sheriff’s office reports

NEW MADISON, Darke County — A 65-year-old Richmond, Indiana, man is believed to have suffered a medical event that led to a deadly single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in the village of New Madison, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Homer Howard was headed west on Rush when his Dodge Dakota pickup truck traveled off the right side of the road about 3:13 p.m., hit a utility pole and continued through a cornfield.

Howard's vehicle continued back across the road and off the left side, coming to a rest in the yard at 1549 Rush.

He died at the scene, the county coroner’s investigator said.
