SPRINGFIELD — The police investigation into an accident Friday evening on West First Street that left a motorcyclist dead was continuing at midnight.
A Springfield Police sergeant said the preliminary investigation indicates the accident involved only the motorcycle and no other vehicle.
Police were dispatched just before 7:30 p.m. on a report of a motorcycle crash in the 1000 block of West First Street. Initial reports suggested the motorcyclist had ended up in the yard of a home, a Springfield Police Division lieutenant said.
At midnight, the street was still shut down in both directions, roughly from Amherst Road to Lamar Drive, for the accident investigation.
