UPDATE: Cruiser Cam footage released in Kettering deadly officer-involved shooting

KETTERING — UPDATE:

The Kettering Police department released cruiser cam footage of the officer involved shooting that took place on June 28th.

They also released as documents related to the two officers involved.

WHIO is working to go through those documents now.

INITIAL STORY:

The Kettering Police Department identified the officers involved in the deadly police-action shooting June 28 in the 2100 block of Gay Drive.

Sgt. Matthew Morgan and Patrol Officer Lester Spinks have been put on administrative leave because of their involvement in the incident, according to the police department.

James Tober Sr., 68, was shot and killed in “an exchange of gunfire” between him and officers during the incident, according to investigators.

Police first responded to the house on Gay Drive after receiving a report of a domestic situation involving a man with a gun, Kettering Police Chief Christopher Protsman said during a news conference after the incident.

Investigators said as police arrived, the caller was hiding from Tober and told officers he was standing in the street holding the gun.

Cruiser cam video released by police shows officers yelling “drop the gun” multiple times, seconds before multiple shots were fired. Protsman said a handgun was recovered at the scene during the investigation.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in processing the scene and Kettering police is handling the criminal investigation.
