The fire department had to use a bucket brigade to put out the flames. By the time the smoke settled, 46 homes and businesses were destroyed.
The fire was ruled to have been caused by arson and losses estimated $1 million.
Today that fire was remembered with a historic exhibit at the Bradford Public Library.
A jar of stones, marbles and melted glass is the only debris known today collected from the fire scene that is in the hands of the local historical society.
