Butler Twp. man going to prison for Englewood bait shop B&E, gun thefts

UPDATE @ 10:25 p.m. (Aug. 17): David R. Bowman is on his way to prison for two years for the Angler's Bait Shop B&E and theft of guns.

He was sentenced Aug. 15, which includes a one-year mandatory year on a firearms specification because the shop is a federally licensed firearms dealer, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department.

The criminal count on breaking and entering was dismissed and Bowman pleaded guilty to three counts of grand theft (firearms), according to county Common Pleas Court records.

Bowman also was ordered to make complete restitution to the victim in the amount of $1,000, according to the police department.

Bowman pleaded guilty Aug. 2 and received 33 days credit on his sentence for time he has spent in the county jail, according to court records.

UPDATE @ 3:05 p.m. (March 3):

A 20-year-old Butler Twp. man was indicted today for breaking into Angler’s Bait Shop in Englewood earlier this year and stealing three firearms.

David R. Bowman is charged with one count of breaking and entering and three counts of grand theft of a firearm, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

Surveillance video shows Bowman throwing a rock through the glass front store and entering the business Jan. 21 at 516 S. Main St., according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. The store owner reported that three handguns had been stolen.

Bowman, who is no longer in jail, is ordered to appear March 16 for arraignment in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

EARLIER (Feb. 2)

A 20-year-old Butler Twp. man is in jail on charges accusing him of breaking into a bait and tackle shop in Englewood last month and stealing firearms.

David Bowman was arrested Friday morning at the Englewood Police Department headquarters, according to a Facebook post by department officials.

He's accused of breaking into the Anglers Bait & Tackle, on South Main Street, on Jan. 21.

Bowman is being detained on felony charges of breaking and entering as well as three counts of grand theft involving a firearm.

His bond has been set at $25,000. He is to be in court on Monday.
