Flooding causes damage in Kettering

Many neighborhoods were damaged due to the flooding from the rain tonight.

Two Kettering residents, Jennifer and William Trapp, said the road was flooded out, the water was over the sidewalks, and was also in peoples yards. Only a few people tried to drive through the flood, with most making it out, but a few getting stuck. “It was pretty interesting because the first time I got an idea of just how high the water was, I was standing down there [the road] trying to wave people away so they didn’t have to come all this way and turn around,” said (William) Trapp. “I looked down the street and saw that the fire hydrant was completely under water, all the way to the white top of it.”

Another Kettering resident, Chris Brenner, said the water was also up to the white part of the fire hydrant. “We’ve lived here 27 years and never seen it,” said Brenner, who thinks the drains clogged up due to a whirlpool of water in the middle of the road. He said even after the rain stopped, it kept rising, getting into his yard and his basement.

Another Kettering woman, Christina Cole, was disappointed about her car being damaged. As cars were driving by her car, the waves from the water raised her car onto the curb - which is what caused the damage to her car. "The water was up to my knee, and the inside of my car is flooded," Cole said.
