Neighbors feel uneasy about vacant house fire Dayton Fire Department says is suspicious

UPDATE @ 5:25 p.m.:

Fire investigators believe the house that caught fire on Hunter Avenue was suspicious.

The fire started in a vacant duplex around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, and is still under investigation.

When crews arrived, the house had smoke coming from the door and windows. The fire was put out quickly, and all that’s left is damage to the front and to a nearly unrecognizable couch.

Neighbors also say they are uneasy about the fire.

“I actually went on the porch to take a look at what was going on and I see a gas can. I don’t know if it is suspicious, but they need to get to the bottom line of it,” said Philip Harris of Dayton.

Harris says he wants more to be done about vacant homes in the City of Dayton, and is happy nobody was hurt.

“No one was injured. No lives were lost and that can be fixed,” he said.
