Texas shooting leaves at least 26 injured and 5 dead

UPDATE @ 11:15 p.m.:

The active shooter incident earlier this evening has left at least 26 people injured and five dead, according to police.

The altercation reportedly began when a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper conducted a traffic stop and the man pulled over fired shots, said Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke.

After the suspect fled the scene he abandoned his vehicle and stole a United States Postal Service truck, Gerke said.

Five people have died and at least 16 are injured following an active shooter situation, said Midland, Texas, police.

Among the injured are a Trooper, a Midland police officer and an Odessa police officer, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said in a press conference.

Police originally believed two suspects were involved, but officials are now saying there was only one shooter.

The only suspect was a white male in his mid-30s and he was shot and killed.

A traffic stop conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety is reportedly when the altercation began.
