Man dead, woman injured after rollover crash in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — UPDATE @ 1 a.m. (Aug. 25):

One man is dead and a woman is in the hospital after a crash Saturday evening on University Boulevard in Middletown, according to the Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

In a release, the patrol said that a 2019 Mazda MX-5, driven by Michael Henderson, 48, of Middletown, was driving northbound around 6;30 p.m. on University Boulevard near Park Lane. Also driving north was Barbara Wigert, 82, of Middletown, in a 2014 Subaru.

Henderson was traveling at a high rate of speed and crashed into the Subaru from behind, then traveled off the left side of the road, striking the curb. The MX-5 rolled onto its top and came to rest on the roadway. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wigert was taken to Atrium Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
