Last summer, he saved Melissa Garmen when her car went up in flames.

The crash happened on U.S. 27 in Adams County. The car Richey was riding in came to a stop, when the driver noticed another vehicle that had stopped in the left lane. She said she doesn’t remember a lot from before or after the crash, but she does remember seeing Richey’s face.

“He said, ‘I’m going to get you out.’ That’s the only thing I could never forget in the whole accident, was I knew that kid. I knew his face. He will forever be my hero,” said Garmen.

Garmen is still recovering from her burns and injuries seven months after the accident.

Richey was honored by the Adams County Prosecutor Tuesday.
