One person taken to hospital during police charity motor ride

UPDATE @ 7 p.m. (June 4):

Police officers from Dayton and Trotwood were involved in a three-vehicle motorcycle crash Saturday during a charity ride that sent a motorcycle rider from Tremont City, Ohio, to the hospital.

All three of the motorcycles participating in the 2nd Annual Call 2 Duty Ride were Harley-Davidson U1 series that had to be towed from the scene. Neither of the officers, Dayton officer Jimmy Howard, 50, nor Trotwood officer Timothy M. Davis, 43, were injured, according to a Vandalia Division of Police traffic accident report.

A third motorcyclist, 68-year-old Dana S. Heider, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. Heider has been discharged, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

The crash happened at 12:44 p.m. in the east lanes of Old Springfield Road at the Canal Road intersection.

UPDATE @ 2:30 p.m.:

Three Harley-Davidson motorcycles were involved in an accident during the “2nd Annual Call 2 Duty Ride,” a fundraiser for a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy.

One person was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and two were treated on scene and released, according to Vandalia dispatch.

It is unsure whether any police officers or deputies were involved in the accident, which is still being investigated.

FIRST REPORT:

We are hearing reports of a three motorcycle injury crash at the crossroad of Old Springfield and Old Canal Road, Vandalia dispatch confirmed.

Crews were dispatched at approximately 12:44 p.m.

It is unknown of how many people were involved.
