Cause of fire at Town House Motor Lodge in Springfield under investigation

UPDATE @ 9:01 p.m.: The cause of the fire at the Town House Motor Lodge has not been determined, according to a Springfield fire captain who estimated damage to the structure and contents at $40,000 to $50,000.

Four residents affected by the fire were moved to other apartments within the facility.

No injuries were reported.

Crews were called on a report of smoke coming from the roof, and because of the build of the structure, locating the attic fire was labor intensive,  fire Capt. Dan Faust said.

He said although there were fire detectors, to his knowledge, none sounded.

UPDATE @ 6:35 p.m.

The fire at the Town House Motor Lodge has produced heavy smoke that is coming from the roof and has affected three to four apartments.

Fire crews have cut a hole in the roof and an aerial truck is being used to pour water onto the flames.

INITIAL REPORT

The Town House Motor Lodge, 2850 E. Main St., in Springfield, is on fire and crews have been dispatched.

The fire called in around 5:45 p.m.
