Suspected lightning strikes damage two Springfield buildings

A Springfield funeral home and an apartment building both sustained damage after suspected lightning strikes from severe storms Thursday.

Bricks from the chimney of the Jones Kenney Zechman Funeral Home on East High Street fell to the parking lot and damaged at least one car around 1:30 p.m., according to our crew on the scene.

A fire crew responded to an apartment complex in the 700 block of Villa Road around 1:10 p.m. to check for damage. An occupant told our crew on scene that he went downstairs after hearing a loud noise and found hot walls and singed carpet.

No injuries have been initially reported in either incident.
