Juvenile arrested in connection to suspicious apartment fire in Sidney

UPDATE @ 10 a.m. (Aug 29): 

A juvenile has been arrested in connection to a fire that investigators said was intentionally set in a Sidney apartment building.

The Sidney Fire Department said an investigation into the fire in a vacant apartment building in the 200 block of West Water Street on Aug. 26 found that the fire was intentionally set, and a juvenile was arrested in connection to the investigation.

Investigators said the building suffered light damage, with damage estimated around $5,000.

FIRST REPORT (Aug. 26)

Firefighters responded to a fire in a second floor apartment near downtown Sidney around 12:30 p.m., and were able to stop it quickly.

There was no gas or electric service to the building and firefighters said there was evidence that someone had been illegally living in the building.

A sign on the property indicated the property had been ordered to be vacated by the Shelby County Health Dept.

An investigator was called into look in to the suspicious fire.
